Bethel School District is seeking appropriately licensed candidates for a 1.0 FTE Occupational Therapist position.

Position Summary

Assessing students’ functional physical development level; planning and implementing appropriate treatment to meet individual student objectives; identifying architectural barriers; providing recommendations for accessibility; program development and student placement; and providing direction to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.

 

Occupational Therapist duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assesses students’ fine and gross motor skills and functional abilities (e.g. perceptual-motor, hand function, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, oral motor/feeding) for the purpose of determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for occupational therapy treatment, appropriate assistive devices and/or curriculum access.
• Collaborates and consults with staff, parents, physicians, and other professionals for the purpose of communication information, developing plans for service, resolving issues and coordinating occupational therapy services with those of other disciplines.
• Develops treatment plans, interventions, and/or educational materials from the IEP for the purpose of remediating students’ motor skill deficits.
• Provides direct occupational therapy services for the purpose of developing students’ daily living skills in compliance with established goals and objectives.
• Directs the work of assigned COTA’s and Educational Assistants for the purpose of providing guidance and ensuring that program objectives are achieved.
• Identifies structural issues for the purpose of removing barriers for students with physical limitations and/or identifying appropriate technology and assistive equipment.
• Consults with students, parents and staff for the purpose of providing information on medical/behavioral attributes, use of assistive devices and/or implementing plans for remediation of functional limitations.
• Interprets medical and academic reports for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
• Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, treatment plans, evaluations, reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

 

Salary Range: $46,048 to $ 92,927 (depending on experience, and education)

Contract Days: 192

Selection Factors

• Knowledge of educational programs offered in all schools and of basic educational techniques, as required by the position.
• Knowledge of the basic developmental stages of a child's learning process.
• Ability to schedule the workload, manage time and meet the needs of students, the school or a program.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work with small groups and individual students.
• Ability to prepare materials for lesson plans and adapt, as needed, to meet the needs of students.
• Ability to interact positively with children and adults, and observe individual student abilities.
• Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, administrators, parents and co-workers.
• Ability to safely and proficiently operate standard office and audio-visual equipment, as required by the position.
• Ability to maintain an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality regarding students, staff, and other individuals.
• Ability to maintain regular, predictable and prompt attendance.

 Minimum qualifications: 

 

• Current license by the Oregon occupational therapy licensing board;
• Preferably two years of experience as an occupational therapist.
• Ability to implement Culturally Proficient skills and strategies 
• Successfully pass fingerprinting, criminal, and Oregon Department of Education background checks
